"I Turned Around"
by Mindy Myers

The tears in my eyes obstructed my view,
along with the pain in my heart.
My arms held tight to that one last embrace,
before all of my world fell apart.
I wished I could have been the one,
but you were tempted with more than I could give.
It saddened me how you went through with your lust,
it was something hard to forgive.
But now as I look back at all that had been,
I realize just what I had done.
I acted too innocent,
until     I found you gone,
the stark one moment I turned around.

Sometimes I feel that maybe you loved me as you said you did,
and thought of me while you held her close.
But then maybe you thought of her while with me,
I guess I'll never quite know.
The thing I regret most about love,
is the innocence I had obeyed.
How could I fall trap in the depths of your eyes,
without looking back to the closing gateway?
That gate which held all of your secrets,
the secrets I thought I knew.
But you never mentioned the part of the deal,
when I'd turn around and lose you.

As for me now,
I try not to dwell on the love I've lost.
I just plunge forward to complete this maze,
and get over the price that love cost.
It cost me my innocence and all of my trust,
but one thing I'll always know.....
to find out yourself what life's all about,
no matter how hard the pain,
is to turn back around go on with your life,
and learn that sometimes you just have to let go.
