VII Updates-Questions-Comments Regarding Committee Reports There was general discussion on the Reflections Program and our Technology Efforts. VIII New Business Reflections Marcia Yockers has agreed to chair the Reflections Program again this year. Linda Smith proposed that we provide funding to support the material costs and membership costs for any student for whom these costs would be a hardship. Motion to provide funding up to $200 to support the Reflections Program, with delegation of spending authority to Marcia Yockers passed unanimously (Smith/Hetter). League of Women Voters Request General discussion explored ways that we could support the League of Women Voters request to assist with a booth June 18th. Bill Hettler volunteered to work on getting PTSA members, including the possibility of student members demonstrating examples of our WebFair Technology Project, using computers at the booth. (Hettler/Peelen) Students from the PJ Jacobs computer club have indicated interest in helping with fixing computers. Discussion included the possibility of expanding this project to other schools if there is success with this pilot and sufficient volunteer help from parents/students. PTSA as a Citywide Educational Foundation Washington School PTO parents have recently discovered that The Sentry Insurance Foundation, Inc. provides matching funds when their employees contribute $25 to $5000 to any Qualifying Primary or Secondary School . To qualify, the school has to have a 501 ( C ) 3 foundation established. We have been told that other corporations have similar matching programs. Since the PTSA is a 501 ( C )3 organization we have decided that we should explore the possibility of providing a fiscal vehicle though which local schools could benefit from this type of program. Bill Hettler and Carol Weston will meet with Marge Coker from Sentry to explore this issue further. Discussion expanded to the issue of having the PTO Council essentially merge with the PTSA. This issue will be explored slowly during this school year. Bill Hettler and Carol Weston are the co-presidents of the PTO Council for this year. Parents of High-Ability Students Sub-committee Pam Fleishauer and Bill Hettler have agreed to provide leadership for a sub-committee of the PTSA to support an advocacy effort for the parents of high-ability students in the Stevens Point Area. Randy Peelen has been the chair of the district Gifted and Talented advisory committee. His term will end this year. Motion to officially form this Sub-committee was passed unanimously. (Hettler/Peelen) Next Meeting The next meeting will be Jan. 23rd,1998 National Wellness Institute Board Room 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. Adjournment Motion to Adjourn 1:10 P.M.
