Technology Committee: Bill Hettler reported that the $200 approved for a pilot minilab in a district classroom has resulted in 7 multimedia computers, work tables, chairs, a laser printer, network hub and network cards being delivered to Jackson School.  The district has not yet set up the machines.  There are insufficient technology support personnel to get the work done in a timely way. There is some progress however.  Power has been installed to the area designated by the teachers.

Motion to use PTA funds to purchase the CD-Rom of John Anderson’s “postcards from the past” for use during this summer’s sesquicentennial celebration.

 Motion Approved by unanimous vote.

Bill made a motion, seconded by Sue that the PTA pass a resolution in support of the School District Grant Application to create 3 Technology Training Centers in our community.

 Motion Approved by unanimous vote.

Wellness at the Mall will be March 7th.  Our PTA will have a booth again this year.  Bill will coordinate the event.

a.                   Officers for next year :We need to start thinking about officers for next year.  We are looking for volunteers. We decided that we will maintain our quarterly meeting schedule.

 b.                   Task force to investigate merging with PTO Council

After discussion, the PTA was in favor of investigating the possibility combining the efforts of the PTO Council and our citywide PTA.

IX.                Set Day and Time for next meeting

Next meeting was set for April 30th at the National Wellness Institute 12:00 Noon to 1:00 P.M.

 Reports Included with the Agenda

Reflections:   Promotion of the Reflections Art program went through all music and art teachers in the Stevens Point Public Schools.   A presentation was made my Marcia Yockers at the November PTO Council meeting.  Entries are due in just a week to Marcia Yockers.  Call Marcia at 345-0555 if you have questions.

Technology:    The $200 was used to purchase seven 386 computers for Jackson School.  The district has not had enough staff to install the computers yet.  The electrical power was brought to the classroom area last Thursday.  We are now waiting for the network connections to be made and the individual machine setups to be completed by district staff.    A computer club has been started at P.J. Jacobs.   Student officers have been elected.  The initial objective for the club is to develop web pages for the school, especially pages that would enhance academic offerings at the school.  At Washington Elementary a computer club is in its second year.  Five teams of students are busy developing web pages for the Wisconsin Webfair and ThinkQuest Jr. a national competition.

Gifted and Talented:  Randy Peelen is revising the materials that the Stevens Point School District was using to explain gifted and talented services to parents.  A survey is being prepared to be sent to all parents of gifted and talented children in our district.  The survey will ask parents for permission to be listed in a directory of  G/T families.   The survey will identify topics for workshops or seminars to be offered.

President:   Our membership continues to slowly grow.  We are currently at 37 members.   As our presence in this community becomes more established, some questions need to be answered.  What do we want our role to be in this community?  Does it benefit both the  PTO Council and the PTSA to join forces?   How do we recruit more active members?  Our Technology,  G/T and Reflection programs are strong, concrete programs to offer this community.  How do we get dedicated people willing to work with  these programs and help them grow?

It is time to start thinking about officer positions for next year.  Please let us know if you are willing to renew your position before the January meeting.  If you are currently a general member, please consider stepping forward to fill any vacancies in our board.  Finally,  the State PTA has asked our chapter to present at the State Convention, May 1&2 on Community PTAs!
