II. Guest, Nancy Bangstad, Portage County Commission on Aging, came to talk to us about an RSVP Program which is seeking additional funding from the elementary school PTOs. This program is called "BABES" or Beginning Alcohol and Addiction Basic Education Studies. The presenters

for this are certified senior volunteers who give six lessons, with the help of puppets, to second graders at a particular school over a three-week period. This is a supplement to the AODA curriculum, which promotes self-esteem and awareness of peer pressure. The pilot program took place at McKinley school in the spring of 1995. Nancy asked the PTOs for a donation of $250.00 from each school for the 1999 budget. Donations can be sent to the Dept. on Aging, 1519 Water St., Stevens Point. Questions? Call Nancy at 346-1401.
