The Stevens Point PTSA has joined hands with the
University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point to help get computers into the classrooms.
UWSP is donating or providing computers at very low cost, to the PTSA.
PTSA members, with the help of students in the district's junior high and grade
schools, evaluate the computers for working components. By removing one floppy drive
from one computer, taking another hard drive and a little extra memory from another and
then adding them together into one machine --- we're turning old, rejected computers
into viable machines. We've been creating mini labs from these computers and
putting them into the classrooms.

So far mini labs have been delivered
to PJ Jacobs Junior High, Jackson, Bannach, Washington, Roosevelt, McKinley, Jefferson,
and McDill Elementary Schools. These computers run Windows 3.1 and average 8 MEG of
memory. Principals have helped find teachers interested in having a lab in their
classrooms. The District and the PTSA have been providing computer programs.
The District provides the technical support for these mini labs.

We're always looking for more people to help
evaluate and build the computers. Or you can help by donating working
computers and parts.
