Boston School Forest

On October first Mrs. Handrich's class went to the Boston School Forest.
The Boston School Forest is not in Boston, it is in Plover.  It is fun,   unfortunately  only schools are allowed.   Fortunately if you're a chaperone you can go.  When I went there it was fun.

Ramona Quimby, Age 8 Play
by Colin

On October. 6,1999, all third and fourth graders from Jackson

School went to see a play in Wausau at the Grand Theater about the book Ramona Quimby, Age 8. We started reading the book on Sept. 22,1999. We are still not done with it. We read Chapter 7 on October 7, 1999. We just have a few more chapters to go. The play was great but it wasn’t exactly like the book. We will discuss more similarities between the book and the play when we finish reading the whole book.

PEER MEDIATION
By KAM and Adam

KAM, Adam, and Emily went to a peer mediation overnight at Boston School Forest. They also went to the SPASH high ropes course. At the high ropes course they went on the moon walk, the criss-cross ropes, the rock wall, the swinging log, the jungle vine swing, and the three roper. They ate someros. They also ate hot dogs and chocolate chip pancakes for the main parts of their meals. For the rest of the meal they had vegetables, dessert, chips, pickles, apple sauce, and juice. They also watched October Sky and went on a night hike with their peer mediation coaches.

Computers

Lately, in Mrs. Handrich's, class we have been going to the computer lab. This year we have been doing Handrich's Happenings. For those of you who had children in Mrs. Bickford's class, you may remember Nova Notes. Handrich's Happening's is fairly similar to Nova Notes. In other news, all of the computer programs our class has been using are either related to science or social studies. That is all for this edition of Handrich's Happenings.

Spelling

In spelling we are working  on vowels and word patterns.    We have to study 20 basic  and 8 challenge words. Each week we have to  take the pretest and if you  got 100% on the pretest  you don't have to take the posttest.   Don't forget to study!

Book Report

We are reading novels of our choice. If we read and do a book report, we get stickers on the chart . If we get 20 stickers before the end of the quarter, we can go into the treasure chest on report card day.

Library

I just figured out that Thursday is library day. Basically all we do is find a book. (need I say more?) Then we check it out. (duh.) Sometimes, only sometimes, Mrs. Handrich will assign us a topic to research.

P.S. Question. What was this story? (Strange humor?)

Math
By Brianna and Adam

For math, since we have third and fourth grades, we are separated into at least two groups. One big group is Mrs. Handrich's class (mostly third graders) and Mr. Johnson's class has another big group (mostly fourth graders.) For fourth graders we had math homework for the first time on September 2, 1999. If we don't do three pages of math homework by the next day, well, I don't know what will happen. For the third grade class, some of them didn't get homework right away. Everyone had math homework by September 3, 1999, however.
